When I was growing up, everyone knew it was true. America was a great country. It wasn’t perfect. Nothing ever is. But, there was no better place to live than in the United States.
What made America great was clear. Americans enjoyed more freedoms than anywhere else on earth. The USA was stronger and more resilient to tyranny because we were a “melting pot.” Americans came from every corner of the globe. Just as alloying different metals makes iron into steel, American culture was a combination of the best of all it’s varied citizens. It was that “alloying” of different cultures that made American the envy of the world.
As a kid, I remember when the regular school day ended, many children were whisked away to study the languages and customs of their forbearers. These classes were meant to augment their education, not to supplant the English language and American customs. Assimilation was always the overriding goal.
Today, tyrannical elitists and politicians foster distrust and even hatred between groups, playing a dangerous game of identity politics, trying to divide and conquer us. Some of these zealots openly advocate seizing sovereignty over parts of our great land. There is a name for this—SEDITION!
